A team work by four of Shunran’s more advanced students. We started the weekly class off by building this wall piece in the classroom. It is supported by a metal wire net structure. We were quite satisfied with the seasonal outcome that takes advantage of both fresh and dry materials.

Seasonal colours in a striped vase. This nageire gave me a headache, because the twiggy branches just wouldn’t settle in and almost all the pretty leaves fell off in the process. This was the best I could do under these demanding conditions.

A freestyle arrangement in a new twisted purple plastic container. By the way, this context is a good moment to apprectiate Santiago Calatrava’s architecture. I named this post in the honor of ‘Turning Torso’, a skyscraper in Malmö, Sweden.

Tomorrow is the opening of Sogetsu Ikebana Finland’s fall exhibition ‘Sogetsu to Art’ in Stoa, Helsinki. This is my solo arrangement. I have used three materials in a classic tricolor tonal range.

This weekend’s Koka Fukushima Sogetsu Ikebana Sensei workshop began with a task where similar colours were to be combined together in a gradient style arrangement. The participants were allowed to choose from three different tonal ranges. I chose the yellow/orange set, which I expanded into red/orange/yellow in my own work.
The container is an elongated ceramic bowl, a gift from my mother-in-law. Below is an Instagram detail.

Sogetsu Ranka Ikebana group had the honor of receiving Sensei Koka Fukushima from Japan in Finland this weekend. She guided us with two demonstrations after which we created individual and group arrangements. The picture below features some of the arrangements that were designed with metal wire net and fresh materials. Mine is the second one from the left.
Above is my individual arrangement seen from above. The material is limonium and horsetail.
Below: a detail of this arrangement brought to sunlight where the wire material is elevated to a new level of visuality.
