A team work by four of Shunran’s more advanced students. We started the weekly class off by building this wall piece in the classroom. It is supported by a metal wire net structure. We were quite satisfied with the seasonal outcome that takes advantage of both fresh and dry materials.

A team arrangement by four people in our November Workshop in Helsinki. It does bear a certain resemblance to a kanji character, doesn’t it? Or as some interpreted, sports equipment. Our group was well pleased with the outcome, as am I. There are no added elements except for the holes that our male enforcement drilled on the logs.

Arranged as teamwork of three, this tall composition mainly makes use of dry materials, except for the fresh thuja greens at the bottom. The seasonal leafless birch seems dry, although it isn’t.

This was a pair work assignment (with A.Bollmann) on a longer ikebana summer course in July 2012. The plants are reaching towards each other, like stretching and shaking hands.

The work requirement was to use Anthriscus sylvestris as a material basis. It’s a simple, yet delicate and beautiful plant.

This ikebana pair work was on show in the lobby of an auditorium where a classical concert was held later that evening – a nice, festive place to exhibit one’s work in public for the first time. I felt really proud and honored to have my name printed on a Sogetsu tag.
