Team work at Ranka ikebana course

Fukushima Sensei visited our workshop in September 2019. The theme was 釣り花, tsuribana, which means arrangements hanging from the ceiling. We made a team arrangement together with L.K., J.S., and myself.  Sensei Fukushima suggested we pile up the red suibans, which gave the installation more power, concentration and intensity.

A team work by four of Shunran’s more advanced students. We started the weekly class off by building this wall piece in the classroom. It is supported by a metal wire net structure. We were quite satisfied with the seasonal outcome that takes advantage of both fresh and dry materials.

A team arrangement by four people in our November Workshop in Helsinki. It does bear a certain resemblance to a kanji character, doesn’t it? Or as some interpreted, sports equipment. Our group was well pleased with the outcome, as am I. There are no added elements except for the holes that our male enforcement drilled on the logs.

Mangrove Lily

A quick team composition on a dry painted root base. The rhododendron hovers nicely above the base, leaving plenty of empty space in the mid-section. A red dry stick material gives a colour accent to the top section.

Upwards

Arranged as teamwork of three, this tall composition mainly makes use of dry materials, except for the fresh thuja greens at the bottom. The seasonal leafless birch seems dry, although it isn’t.
