Tenerife’s highest point, Teide, is surrounded by a natural park filled with pine trees. This volcanic region suffers from occasional forest fires in the hot summer months. The bark of the pine trees in this area is scorched black, but the trees keep growing in the high altitude. This arrangement represents my recent hiking experience on the Chinyero trail. I combined fragile violet flowers with burnt tree material to create a contrast between two feelings: fresh and suffering, gentle and sturdy.

A white container curls under a pine branch and some blue-violet bells. The colours seem quite seasonal, although clematis is not a flower of this season.

Sprouting Vines

Experimenting with vines. The vine is from a pink spring clematis plant, and it has been arranged on a tile stove in a Finnish anti-tank shell casing dating from the year 1941.
